Hi, I am Tom Alig, VP of Staffing with Indispensable Health. I’ve been recruiting pharmacists and pharmacy technicians since 2004, and I’ve seen the things good candidates do to separate themselves, and I’ve seen the mistakes that some candidates make.

This is the fourth in a series of short videos on suggestions for preparing your resume for a pharmacy position.

Today’s Tip: The objective on your resume: It’s not about you. It’s about the value you will give the employer and the organization as a whole.

Some employers like to see an objective statement on your resume, some don’t.

If you are going to have an objective statement on your resume, make it about what you can do for the employer and their pharmacy. Don’t make it about what the employer can do for you.

❌ For example, an objective of, “Seeking a pharmacy technician position which would utilize my training and additional educational experience.” doesn’t tell me what you can do, how you can help a pharmacy, or what type of pharmacy you can help.

✅ On the other hand, an example of a good objective is something like, “Experienced pharmacy technician seeking a retail pharmacy position where my 6 months of experience calling for third-party insurance verification, prescription processing, and providing great customer service every day can be utilized to help the pharmacy continue to provide the best patient-centric care for their patients.”

Make your objective about what you can do for the pharmacy. It’s not about you. It’s about how your skills can help the pharmacy.
